It came down in two moves, three weeks apart, and once the second one landed on Labor Day weekend, the town entered a quieter stretch before its next downtown attraction, the October 5 pub crawl. • August 13 — the Twain Harte Mountain Air Market ran its last Thursday evening at Eproson Park, closing out a run that started June 4th with live music and artisan vendors from 4 to 7 PM.
• Labor Day weekend — Concerts in the Pines played its final confirmed 2026 date, September 5, on the Rotary Stage, the same weekend Twain Harte Lake closed for the season. The Lake Association's own site lists the operating window as Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, with no lifeguards on duty outside it.

That's the actual shape of it. Thursday nights went quiet first, three weeks before Labor Day. Then the Saturday concert series and the lake, the thing most people associate with Twain Harte summer, both wrapped in the same 48 hours.

This year, Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort paused its summer resort operations for 2026 entirely. The Mountain Air Market had ended on August 13, and the lake and Concerts in the Pines closed over Labor Day weekend. If Thursdays and Saturdays have felt unusually still since Labor Day, the calendar offers some context.

What's Actually Still Open Right Now

None of this means Twain Harte closed for the season. It means the built-in reasons to be downtown on a specific night went away, and what's left is the businesses that keep normal hours regardless of whether there's a stage set up at Eproson Park.

• The Rock, on Fuller Road, keeps its lodge-style dining room open seven days a week, with hours running until 8 or 9 PM depending on the night.
• Eproson House, the steakhouse on Twain Harte Drive, is open Wednesday through Sunday, with a dog-friendly back patio that's still usable this time of year.
• China House, on Joaquin Gulley Road, has served the town since 1988 and stays open Tuesday through Sunday.
• Local Press, the coffee bar and restaurant on Fuller Road that got a visit from the online show America's Best Restaurants, is still pouring coffee and running dinner service even though its Saturday live music was mostly a summer feature.
• The Branch runs reservation-only pop-up dinners on Fridays and Saturdays, with chef Matt Garcia, who spent two decades cooking in San Francisco kitchens before bringing a tasting-menu format to Joaquin Gulley Road.

None of these depend on a festival schedule. They're the town's actual baseline, the places that were here before the Mountain Air Market started and will be here after Oktoberfest ends.

The Next Downtown Attraction Is October 5

The Oktoberfest Pub Crawl is the next downtown attraction with a fixed date: October 5.

On September 8, the Chamber of Commerce held a debrief meeting at the Twain Harte Community Center about this year's Summer Festival. Sun Poppy Markets and Events owner Peitra Rice attended.

The pub crawl itself runs the length of downtown on October 5, from 2 to 5 PM. Tickets get you a commemorative lanyard and a 5-ounce tasting mug that participating businesses fill as you walk between them. This year's list of participating stops includes Sierra Cellars, Harte of the Kitchen, Eproson House, The Golf Course, The Rock, and The Villa, according to the Chamber's own event listing.

Two things happen at specific locations rather than everywhere. The Stein Holding competition runs at Eproson House, with a $10 buy-in. The Yodeling competition runs at The Villa, for $5. Both come with trophy prizes for winners, and the costume contest is free to enter with a ticket. It's a small-town format, walkable, priced for an afternoon rather than an event you build a whole day around, and it happens to land right as the leaves start turning color on the walk between stops.

What to Do With the Quiet Weeks Before Then

If you live here, the four weeks between the lake closing and October 5 aren't dead time. They're the easiest stretch of the year to get a table at The Rock without a wait, walk Eproson Park without dodging a crowd, or take the dog down Joaquin Gulley Road in the late afternoon without navigating festival parking. The Twain Harte Golf Club's nine holes stay open to the public the whole time, and the tennis and pickleball courts on Marquis Drive run from 7 AM to dusk regardless of season.
